Malaysia - Cameron Highlands

We fancied a change from the beaches, so went to Tanah Rata in the Cameron Highlands.  There are lots of jungle treks to do.  This was on the way to one of the peaks.  It's quite steep, I'm only a few feet in front of Paul

There were some lookout points along the way

This walk incorporated 2 peaks and this is from the top of Gunung Jasar, at 1670m

Named after the person who mapped the area, 'William Cameron', it was developed in the 1920's as a colonial hill station by the British

Even the 3 main towns there are over 1200m up and this was a good respite for anyone, from the heat of the lower regions of Malaysia.  The temp here doesn't really go above 25 degrees, or below 12 degrees

Due to the cooler climate, farming is extensive throughout the region and things like strawberries, cauliflours, cabbages etc are normal.  We went to a strawberry farm.  I think the table was overkill though...

This is one of the oldest buildings, a 1930's mock Tudor hotel still going today.  How British can you get?!

Another walk we took went by Robinson's Falls

The climb up to one of the peaks was even steeper!

Though we eventually arrived at the peak of Gunung Berembun, 1812m, after only a couple of hours

Where the view out was somewhat obstructed and we saw lots of bees nests.....so we didn't stay long.

Nearer the bottom we passed yet another farm

One thing that the Cameron Highlands is very famous for is its tea

You can go to one of the many tea plantations where they'll give you a guided tour

I got up early one morning and rode up to the highest peak, Gundung Brinchang and Gundung Irau, 2000m and 2090m.  I got there just as the sun was rising, not that I could see it behind a wealth of cloud.  Then it started to rain.  I mean....if I'd wanted to get up to watch it rain, I would've stayed back home.....

The rock wasn't really that high, but Paul is very safety conscious

It's no wonder they put 2 'T's in pretty

Was nice to air out our 'cold clothes'

The Cameron Highland Breakfast Tea we had was a bit like a milder Tetley, was very nice
After a bit, Paul had had enough of tea and photos.......
