Kampot & Bokor Mountain, Cambodia

We went on a boat on the river that runs through Kampot

It was the best view we've had from where we've stayed, we normally get a wall or back alley

We went to see the Bokor Mountain which is part of a National Park.

There is a road being built but isn't finished so we trekked up the mountain through the jungle for around an hour, then back down when we were coming down

The views were stunning

This is about 3/4 way up

At the top is a hotel which was also a casino for a time.  It is at the peak on the edge of a cliff, just over 1000m up

When it was a casino, some of the patrons who'd gambled and lost everything would go round to the cliff and throw themselves off

You found alsorts lurking in there

And I mean, allsorts!

Amazing view

You could look down on the flat plateau of Cambodia, out into the Gulf Of Thailand where there were islands

Paul bravely stood at the edge of the cliff

And sat and contemplated life

Was something different.  It flew away the moment I'd snapped it

I didn't want to go too close to the edge, but had to have a picture taken once I'd got there

The hotel is actually part of a village which is fairly spread out and has a church, Post Office, Hospital etc.  It is currently being built up so visitors can come up and older (richer) Khmers can stay up there for their reitrement

Never mind the 'Cheap, cheap', Steep, Steep!

We were taken on a river afterwards, this is a traditonal boat and way of powering it, or they use 2 paddles, one on either side of the boat

Paul was sick of the camera

But the sunset didn't mind
